An artificial LED window is a lamp that looks like a patch of sky from below and fills the room with white light at whatever colour temperature you set. At Polight.me the smallest model, ACCENT 30 x 30 cm, starts at PLN 1,090. Our bestseller, the FLAT 60 x 60 cm panel, starts at PLN 2,622. The FOCUS lamps with a visible sun cost the most; the large models are above PLN 22,000. It will not replace a real window in a room you live in. In a basement, a hallway, a windowless office or a dark attic, though, it changes the space more than any ordinary lamp.
How a lamp makes a sky
The sky is blue because air scatters short wavelengths of light more strongly than long ones. Physicists call it Rayleigh scattering. In our lamps the light from the LEDs passes through a diffuser with nanoparticles that scatters it the same way. Look at the panel and you see blue. The floor and walls get white light.
We do the simplest test at every demonstration: we switch the lamp off. Switched off, it is not blue; it looks like a grey, slightly mirror-like surface. A photo panel or a backlit print would keep its sky.
A screen is not the answer either. A screen shows a picture of the sky, but it will not light a room. FLAT 60 x 60 cm gives 2,500 lumens at 60 W, roughly what three LED bulbs replacing an old 60-watt bulb give.
Five series, five effects
Not every artificial window looks the same. We have five series and each does something different.
FLAT: sky across the whole room
The flat panels are 36 mm thick and spread light wide, at 120 degrees, so they work as the main light in a room. They mount in a frame, recessed or hung on cables, and in a 600 x 600 grid ceiling a panel takes the place of a tile. They need a little over 100 mm above the ceiling. The series also has windows divided into panes (70 mm, surface-mounted) and FLAT-22X, which looks like a window in the wall, with a frame and a sill.
ZENITH: a roof skylight
The light goes straight down in a narrow 15-degree beam. Below the lamp you get a bright pool, like under a real roof window. ZENITH needs at least 240 mm of space above the ceiling.
FOCUS: sky with a sun
The only series where you see the sun. There is a warm, distinct disc against the blue, and part of the light leaves as a concentrated beam, like sunbeams through a window. The large models give 20,000 lumens and the room gets properly bright.
ACCENT: sunlight on the wall
ACCENT shines sideways. Recessed into the ceiling 0.6-1 m from a wall, it throws light onto it at 30 degrees, so the wall looks as if there were a window just below the ceiling. It is good for picking out a painting, a bookcase or a plant.
LINEA: a strip of sky
A narrow 115 x 14 cm lamp that needs only 86 mm of depth. It works like ACCENT, and several in a row form one line along a wall. It suits long hallways and low ceilings.

Shipping costs PLN 79 within Poland and €34 to most of Europe. Collection from our Warsaw showroom is free. An electrician does the installation; a panel hung on cables connects much like a pendant light.
Electricity is easy to work out. FLAT 60 x 60 cm draws 60 W. At eight hours a day it uses about 14.4 kWh a month. The larger FLAT-22L window draws 160 W, about 38 kWh a month under the same conditions.
Where it makes sense
It does the most where there is no window, or the window is too small, and a lamp is on all day anyway. A basement turned into a gym or a workshop. A hallway in a block of flats. A walk-in wardrobe. An office in the middle of a building, a consulting room, a reception area. In an attic with one small roof window, ZENITH or FLAT adds a second skylight without cutting into the roof.
In a flat with a concrete ceiling and no suspended ceiling you have two routes: surface-mounted FLAT windows or panels hung on cables.
In a living room with a window, an artificial window does not compete with the midday sun. It works in the morning, in the evening and through the grey months. In Warsaw on 21 December the day lasts 7 hours and 42 minutes, and for most of it the sky is overcast anyway.
What an artificial window will not do
It will not replace the window a habitable room needs. Building regulations require such a room to get daylight through a window, and no lamp changes that. It will not turn a basement into a legal flat.
It will not give you vitamin D. Skin needs UVB radiation to make it, and our lamps emit no UV.
It is not a light therapy lamp. Those devices are used as a doctor advises. An artificial window changes how a room looks and how it feels to be in it, and that is all we promise.
What to check before you buy, from us or anyone else
Switch the lamp off at a demonstration, or ask for a video where someone switches it off. Switched off, it should not be blue.
Ask about CRI, which tells you how faithfully the light shows colours. Ordinary cheap LEDs are around 80; our lamps are above 93. At 80, skin and food look paler.
Film the lamp on your phone in slow motion. If horizontal bands roll across the screen, the light flickers. Ours do not.
Ask how much space is needed above the ceiling. The difference between 100 and 240 mm decides whether the lamp fits without lowering the ceiling.
Ask who provides the warranty and where you claim it. Ours is 3 years, extendable to 5, handled by a Polish company, with a VAT invoice.
Ask about control. At home an app or a remote is enough; in an office or a hotel the designer will ask about DALI. Our lamps work with the Tuya app, an infrared remote and a wall panel; there are versions with a DALI driver, and KNX connects through a DALI-KNX gateway.
See it in person
Our showroom at Taneczna 27 in Warsaw is open 24 hours a day. You leave your number in a form, we send you a door code, and you come whenever you like. Evening is best, because that is when the difference is greatest. All five series hang there on the ceiling and walls, with remotes within reach.
